5 minutes with 2015 Idols winner.

Karabo Mogane (26) had his prayers answered when he was voted winner of Idols SA last year. Karabo, who was born in Nelspruit, said before auditioning for Idols SA, he used to sing at weddings and functions. Now he is recording his very own studio album titled Love is a Verb. We recently had a chat with him and this is what he had to say about his upcoming album, winning the competition and his future plans.

Thabang : How would you describe your Idols journey?

Karabo: Absolutely amazing. I’ve grown so much as a person and as a musician. The mentors’ and judges’ advice has helped build me as a performer. The people who have supported me from day one have made the journey worth it.

Thabang: What are your plans for the R700 000 that you won?

Karabo: I’d love to invest most of it. I’d also like to renovate my parents’ house and buy my father a Volvo S40.

Thabang: What is your album Love is a Verb is about and what inspired that title?

Karabo: The album speaks on love experiences, not entirely my own, although one or two of the tracks have been influenced by my past experiences.

Thabang: What was your worst experience in the competition?

Karabo: When the Ford seats elimination process was introduced – where you had to wait for your name to be called for you to perform, that was a really scary experience.

Thabang: What will you miss most about the show?

Karabo: Working with such a wonderful production team, the band, the backing vocalist and also making great friends with the contestants and also performing for South Africa.

Thabang: Gospel or RnB?

Karabo: My album consists of many genres, RnB and gospel are also part of the album.

Thabang: Where does Karabo see himself in the next five years?

Karabo: He sees himself as an ambassador for world-changing campaigns and also working on some TV programmes.
